A Caterpillar 777d Dump Truck water bowser at an iron ore mine in the Northern Cape was experiencing excessive machine downtime due to faults in lighting circuit wiring harnesses.
The machine experienced downtime due to rear lights and bin marker lights not functioning, which is a Class One hazard. The condition of wiring harnesses overall was poor. On investigation, the bin marker light installation has been poorly executed. Connectors were filled with moisture and iron ore.
Harntech manufactured a plug-and-play electrical kit and upgraded sealed and braided harnesses with moisture and dirt-proof boots fitted to the connectors. A lighting interface control unit was manufactured, and an installation manual was provided for easy fitment. Wiring harnesses were manufactured as modules for easy replacement. Machine uptime increased substantially after a trial fitment. Harntech has now provided the solution for the entire fleet.
